About TickClip

TickClip is a small, browser-based video toolkit. The goal is narrow on purpose: make the lookup, inspection and download flow clear, fast and honest about what it can and cannot do.

What the site does

You paste a video link. The server validates it, extracts the platform-specific video id, and asks a configured parsing backend for metadata and the available formats. The results are displayed as they came back: no invented titles, no placeholder quality labels, no imaginary download links.

The site performs two of the three stages in a download: obtaining metadata and obtaining a time-limited direct link. The third stage, moving the bytes, happens directly between your browser and the provider. Media files are never streamed through this application.

What the site does not do

  • No member accounts, subscriptions, credits or payment processing.
  • No desktop application or browser extension to install.
  • No server-side transcoding. Separate picture and sound streams are remuxed, not re-encoded, unless the audio codec cannot be carried by MP4.
  • No playlist, channel or bulk downloading.
  • No circumvention of DRM, access controls, age gates or paywalls.
  • No personal download history, and no upload of your own files.

How it is built

A single Next.js App Router application serves both the pages and the JSON API. Parsing is isolated behind a provider registry, so the front end talks only to this site's own /api/parse endpoint and no third-party key ever reaches the browser. Swapping the parsing backend is a configuration change, not a rewrite.

The same codebase is designed to be deployed a second time as a mirror under a different domain. Site name, canonical URL and contact address all come from environment variables rather than being baked into the source.

How it stays free

By not doing the expensive parts. Video is never re-encoded, prepared files are deleted within minutes instead of being stored, and there is no large object storage. Those are the three costs that usually force a tool like this behind a paywall. If that calculus ever changes, the change will be described on this page rather than introduced silently.

Legal position

You are responsible for what you download and what you do with it. Use the tools only for content you own, content you are licensed to use, or content the source platform permits you to save. See the terms of service and the copyright policy for the details.
